Hello Ron…. glad you are still performing. My wife and I met you at a club in Raleigh NC back in the late 70’s. I remember I went to the restroom while you guys were taking a break and you and a couple of the band guys werein there and you mentioned about playing the Jukebox song the second set… I spoke out loud and said hell yeah… you laughed and said you like that one huh?…. You dedicated the song to my wife and I. Great night.

Growing up in Newport News I started following our local boys, Bill Deal and the Rhondels on WGH 1310AM when I was about 13 years old.  It wasn’t until college and dental school that I really fell in love with beach music listening to Steve Leonard on GO16.  “If I Didn’t Have A Dime” quickly became one of my all time favorites.  I went to see Ron Moody and the Centaurs every chance I could.  As I followed them I got to know the entire band.  I was more than impressed when I learned Ron actually wrote many of the songs he sings!  Most bands simply use tracts and play along to the tracks on stage.  With Ron Moody & the Centaurs every note you hear is actually played by the musicians on stage.

Ron has written songs for the late Paul Craven, The Holiday Band and Archie Bell and the Drells to name just a few.  Not only does he write music he is a walking encyclopedia for music trivia and information about the various bands.  Ron used to host a monthly talk, along with Tony Booth, about music and the stories behind the songs.  This was fascinating to me and is where I learned so much about the music I love.   He currently has 2 radio shows — “Your Saturday Night Beach Party” and “Retro Rock and Soul”.  These both air on several stations and streaming platforms.  I never get tired of listening to the shows and the music he plays and discusses.  Now Ron has written a book, “Forever The Constellations”. This is a terrific fictional story about a band. I’m sure his years in the music industry gave him insight he used in the book.  It is an excellent read that you can’t put down.

Ron is beyond talented in so many ways — still writing music and sharing his knowledge!  Whenever we talk he is working on new music or projects.  I have to be honest, I am privileged to consider Ron and his wife, Sharon, two of my favorite people and very good friends!  Can’t wait to see what he does next!
